Animal Cruelty

This article is about animal cruelty discovered at a dairy farm in Idaho. The video shows the cows being beaten, lashed and even sexually abused. The dairy farm fired the employees who performed these horrible tasks but they claimed the dairy farm was also violated because the video was taken by people who were not welcome in the dairy farm. They argued that they needed protection from animals activists that were using false information to harm the dairy farm. One thing that stood out to me was that the video was taken in 2012 but was not released until two years later. This relates to Spiegel's essay because he argues that the way people deal with problems is to ignore them and that if they pretend the problems then they aren't as bad as they think. Another thing that caught my attention in this article is that the man who sexually abused the cow had to spend 102 days in jail, but if that same man was caught sexually abusing a human, his punishment would be much greater. This just emphasizes the inequality our society has between humans and animals.
